expert advice needed fixing my ps2...possible problem with ribbon cable? –
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a v1 ps2 with a magic 3. After the install i finally got everything working. In putting the ps2 back together I managed to put the motherboard shielding in improperly with the expansion bay cage pinching the shielding down tightly against the edge of the motherboard. When i turned on the ps2 the laser started going crazy. The laser eye kept on moving up and down as if trying to focus. It would bash into the top of its housing making a clicking noise as it went up and down. Also the drive motor kept spinning up and stopping and spinning up again even though there wasnt a disk in the drive. After I took things apart and put them back together correctly I find that no cdr or dvdr games will boot and everything else wont boot until it gets to the browser screen. I managed to trace the problem to the two ribbon cables between the motherboard and the disk drive being pinched against the side of the motherboard. I was wondering if damaging the ribbon cables could make my ps2 develope these symptoms and if so where I can get replacement ribbons. I looked at gamegizmo but no luck. Thanks in advance for any help.
thanks for the advice...anyone know how to test if the problems i am having are caused by the ribbon cable or if it might be something else that is causing the problem? TIA
