excited newb modder needs clarity!

hey !

im an xbox modder and i wanna get started on my ps2! i have been reading a few threads, but am still not absolutely sure if what i want is possible.

here is what i want:

1. turn on PS2. play my backups from a 120gb hard drive inside my ps2.
2. also i want to be able to transfer my backups to and from my pc through my router

not too much to ask right?

questions:

1. what chip(s) will(can) accomplish this? (i have V5)

2. once chip is soldered on and harddrive is in place what software is needed to accoplish what i want? (HDloader? WinHIIP? ExecFTP? HDL_dumb?)

3. generally speaking how does the function of the MC exploit fit into the scenario of what i want my PS2 to do? is it necessary once i have a chip?

i have done searches and will continue to do searches after this is posted. i am excited about getting my mods started so i thought i would ask my questions directly.

1. It depends. Some people like the Matrix Infinity. If you want something that has a feel of an xbox dashboard which the crystal chip would be a great chip. The Bootman software is good IMO. It is v5 compatible and it will work great.
2. To transfer games you can use WinHIIP.
3. Some chips have memory card managers like Matrix Infinity and Crystal chip. It will save you time doing the exploit.

Just in case you're still undecided on which chip to get... Duo 2 SE is like an Aladdin and the Matrix Infinity or Crystal Chip is like the Xecuter 3 or Xenium.

If you want to turn on your PS2 and have hdloader be launched that can be done with Matrix Infinity dev1. You can put hdloader.elf onto the memory card and have it launch automatically everytime the PS2 is turned on. I don't know if Crystal Chip got dev mode, never played with one yet.

Ok... does it have the ability to boot files from mc upon startup or you have to manually select that file and execute it.

1) Crystal Chip, DMS3, DMS4, Matrix Infinity
2) HDLoader will setup your HDD, and allow you to boot the games off the HDD. HDL_DUMP(B) will transfer your games over the network.
3) No, this has no purpose after installing a chip. It is designed for users who want to launch applications but do not have a modchip. To use the exploit, you have to boot a disc in your PS2. With the modchips mentioned in 1., you do not have to have any disc in the drive to launch your games.
