Quite a strange one this for me.
But i recently installed a Messiah 2 into a brand new UK Version 7 Gen 4 PS2.
The actual install went flawlessly, continuity between all point were tested at each soldering. However when i went to playback any CDR or DVD-R backups the PS2 just refused to play them properly - with heavy stuttering of Sound and Movies sequences.
As per usual i tested all points on the board of the ps2 to ensure that there were no bad connections - all checked out fine. Again i checked the PS2 but the same problem prevailed.
Automatically i would have assumed that this would have been an issue with either my modding/soldering, but im happy with that, or the fact that the mod may have been bad [which i replaced with another Messiah 2], but still the same problem.
I then endeavoured to replace the PS2 Drive, with another NEW PS2 drive that i have as a spare. Suprisingly, the new drive worked almost 99.9% with only the slightest hint of stuttering - and i mean slight. I have read Charlie's FAQ on SONY's calibration of the PS2 drives which would lead me to assume that i would have to adjust the Pots on the DVD controller - please correct me if im wrong.
It seems strange that both drives would have completely different tolerance levels to the media being played. But again, Charlie's FAQ helps to reassure me that it is the drive [i hope].
Personally im not to bothered about the playback as it is only marginal, but would adjustment of the POT make this issue dissappear.
The Kit i have been using is as follows:
SCPH 39003 V7 Gen 4 PS2 x 3
Pioneer A105 Writer [all Disks burnt at 1 speed]
Messiah 2 x 3
Magic 3 Blue x 1
Media Used - Pioneer, Intenso etc.
The actual copies all play flawlessly in my one year old PS2. If anyone can shed a simple answer i would be greatly appreciative.
