I been having some bad luck recently and i been bridging pins on IC's with solder and it tends to get inbehind and is a SOB to remove, desolder braid seems to do nothing in these situations... I was wondering if anyone could tell me the eaisest way they've found to remove it. thx.

I had this situation once, I didnt check to clean my solder tip and ended up bridging 3 legs! I thought i really f**ed up. The solder went a little deep into the legs and desoldering braid didnt work. What i did i grabbed one of those little vacuums, kinda adjusted it to have a little straw, and i heated up the solder to become liquid and pulled it with the straw. I did this calmly for like 5-10 minutes, but it worked to the point i could use the desoldering braid to clean the rest. Phew! that was close!

    Hope it helps.

well i guess those would work better, i just used a normal cheap vacuum for cleaning keyboards, mouse etc. And modified it a little so the only space to pull air would be the hole on the straw. Its not a situation I would recommend to anybody , but if you do see yourself in it , it definately works.

this has worked very well for me , when i clean any solder bridges i put flux on them first (really helps) , for when there is still solder behind the pins (i only recomed this for pros) i have actually globed more solder back on the pins in hopes it will atract the solder from behind and either used desolder braid again or (please do not attept this unless you know what you are doing) used a desoldering iron to suck it all up (only in areas that can stand a little more heat).

use plenty of flux and work the solder across the ic legs, you can also use the brade at this time to remove solder bridges, you can also add more solder this sometimes helps, i can get bridges out of any ic with this techneque.

I use a needle myself, it not unusual for me to burn my fingers a bit either, but that what you get for screwing around.

Have you guys ever heard about soldering flux ? It's a fluid that makes the solder stick to the pins while it's hot, instead of splashing and such. Two drops and some heat is enough to make the solder flow to the whole pins, and the soldering iron tip, releasing the short circuit.

Also, using the flux with desoldering braid, makes it a LOT more efficient while sucking the solder away from the board.

    Peace.

You can also use a mechanical vacuum pen.
Much cheaper at 4 Euros than the electrical one
