DVDs won't read.. PLEASE help

Ok, I installed the Duo 3 mod-chip a while back and all my DVD's would load up fine about 50% of the time. Then someone said in order to make it work the rest of the time, turn the pots clockwise just a little bit. Well I measured it with a multimeter and made absolute sure not to go outside the required ohm readings, and I didn't. I adjusted it as low as it would go without going outside the requirements, like someone suggested. Well it was working perfectly fine.. for about 10 minutes. I was playing a game then all of a sudden it started loading and making those regular 'squeaky' noises inside the PS2, then it made a few clicking noises and seemed to be loading very aggressively. Then when I entered a new loading area, the screen went black and nothing happened. Then I restarted it and I couldn't get anything to work. No originals, no bakcups, no nothing. I made absolute sure not to mess up the pots and I did not. I never went outside the recommended ohm readings, so what the hell is happening...

Right now these are my readings-
CD: 857
DVD: 1227

Please help.. this is driving me crazy...

sounds like the laser needs to be replaced. what ver ps2 do you have?

Oh man.. are you serious. I have a version 4 (gap bios). And a B laser.

How did the laser go bad??

I wouldnt go much lower with the CD pot, but with the DVD pot try turning it down in about 50 Ohm increments, if you get to 800Ohms and its still not working well you laser is shot. However you need to also set the white cog, start with it in the middle and after each adjustment of the pot if your not getting good results fiddle with the white cog some. V4's are notorious for having laser issue so dont be surprised if you cant get it to do anything. This is why I recommend people get a chip with dev1/2 mode so they came boot HDL from a MC or HDD and play back-ups from the HDD with no need for a disc in your PS2 at all.

Where did you get that bit of incorrect info? I have gone as low as 700 before, but that laser was pretty much shot. I have even seen lasers show up here that people have adjusted as low as 400 and they still read originals jut not recordable media.

This is what I was told to stay in between:

CD: 850 Ω ? 900 Ω
DVD: 1200 Ω ? 1400 Ω

Is that not right? Which exact setting should I set each one to?

Also remember, each laser is different. I have a Type B. and I think the motherboard makes a difference too.. mines Version 4. Yours may be different.

There is no "exact" setting. But not going below 1200 Ohms is false info. Who feed you this crap anyway?

What are the actual settings, if those are wrong?

Ahh, I think I discovered where the false information came from.

On this guide: http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm it says that Version 4 PS2s have the C laser and Version 3 PS2s have the B laser.

Then down below it says-

V3 stations - CD = 1080 to 1260, DVD = 800 to 1300
V4 stations - CD = 850 to 900, DVD = 1200 to 1400
V5 stations - CD = 1200, DVD = 1400
V7 stations - CD = 1200, DVD = 1100 to 1400

And people have been telling me the info for the v4 readings right there, however those are for the C laser. So I should be going by the V3 readings there, correct?
