dvdpot or whitecog
Modded a brand new V7 with a dms3 v2 chip and it didn't want to read dvd+r/+rw right off the bat everything else works. Figured it was the laser i measure the dvd pot and it was around 1200ohms. I heard the norm was around 850ohms so I set it to that. It works but my fear is that the higher voltage will eat my laser up. Only been using the PS2 for a few weeks. My question is it recommended to adjust the dvd pot first or the white cog for alignment first on a mod on a brand new machine to get the unit to read DVD media.
you shouldnt have turned it down that low right away. 850 isnt the norm i believe, its the limit. shouldve done the 10% rule.
i have never had to tweak a brand new ps2 to read any media, any probs is usally down to the media itself tried another +r disc ?
this is where you should be working from i strongly believe the above and will stick to it, its a method that works you have to remember the ps2 was not made to read burnt media its made to read pressed.
850 is factory setting for the dvd pot from v1 to v 5 only and you should only go as low as 720 for these versions
v7 up need to be around the 1050 mark and the lowest value to go to is 920 you have gone way below the threshold for this version, and have a high risk of damaging the laser diode.
you have to think like this not all ps2's like the same media +r is a fussy media in itself if possible try to stick with ritek dvd-r +r media they are the best.
I did have 3 types of media, Sony, TDK, and Fuji (+R & +RW). The +Rs tend to work about 75% while the +RW worked 25% of the time before the adjustment.
What about the whitecog to adjust the laser alignment, would that help instead of adjusting the dvdpot? I'm trying to extend the life of this ps2 cuz i believe my V5 died cuz of laser failure.
