This is for those of you who have DVD9 (gold) HK disks and not DVDr disks and v1-v4 consoles only.

I have noticed that a lot of the older consoles do not wan't to boot the DVD9 or gold disk formats. I have now taken a PALv3 and a PALv4 console and put 4 diffirent chips in each of them, namely DMS3, TITAN, MESSIAH & MAGIC3.

All of these chips except the MAGIC3 (some problems) performed the same, they all booted DVDr and HK silver disks fine, but all of them had problems with DVD9 (gold) disks. These console would boot some of the DVD9 formats, but not all. Then when it was tested with V5, 6, & 7 all the games worked fine.

The reason for this is due to the lens problems on the V1 - 4 consoles, there is a lot of focus and tracking during the reading of a DVD9 format since the data is on 2 layers. This obviously puts a lot of stress on the lens. If a the PS2 lens can not read the table of contents on of a disk then how is the chip supposed to know what to do.

Can someone else with the same problems please report it. I think it is time that we get the message out there that not all DVD9 format disks will work on older machines regardless of the mod-chip.

I did see someone else post something on this before, but I could not find the original post.
