DVD9: Apologies to Terry @ foundmy.com

Terry was right and I was wrong. There is a modchip basis for DVD9 games not booting reliably on such as Magic 2 & Apple.

I won't go into the details but it is all about the detail read out from the PS2 and the timing of the handling of that data. That accounts for various model PS2s behaving differently (like v5 reliably booting DVD9 with Magic 2), as if by accident.

All this came into the light for me when Messiah 2 booted DVD9 without problem. So I'm privileged to acknowledge the erroneous (if not understandable) conclusions that I had reached and published.

guichi, i guess you are right terry did bash but honestly, how many places do you go and visit that say magic2 works with everything, even modchip.ca says dvd9, do you think he will change his webpage to notify his customers of this issue, hell no, but i bet he sells more chips than Terry does, and all terry wanted was the information to be known and fact and not rumour. so really terry not getting your respect, here is a reseller doing testing, and letting people know. and there was a conflict between findings of his and charlie_ps2. well, that be settled now, do you think sales of magic2 fell or terry sales increased?

charlie_ps2 findings on magic2 products initially most likely pushed people towards increasing magic2 sales, and now with his findings on messiah2 people will get geared up for that now too. that is the way it works. right.

so if Terry sold a few more chips with his truth (bashing), isn't that a good thing for those few customers so they got a proper solution?

Not until someone else has reported the issue, did people believe anything Terry was stating. most took it as a ploy to increase sales, if more people believed him, do you think he would of kept pushing this issue? atleast he kept pushing the issue, to inform people of an issue, that this was a mod problem.

It would suck if GTA:VC came out on DVD9 and it wouldn't even boot on a domestic machine with a magic2/apple. that is what he was concerned about, not just imports but domestic, just like how messiah screwed up on domestic original/backup/import PSX1 NTSC titles.

so do you think a place like modchip.ca should update their webpage to let customers know of this issue, or just keep selling the magic2 chip with false advertising, since the truth be known now. that is where respect should be lost not on someone trying to get the truth out there.

Its not an issue of who was right or wrong, but more of an issue there is something to this dvd9 issue than we all initially thought.

To all don't go to ps2ownz and saying anything about dvd9 issue, i bet in that place you would get banned for life.

actually even through the chips might have problems booting import dvd9 games. It would have no problem booting domestic dvd9 games by just starting the game using the PSX game booting method.

So there is usually a solution to many problems.

I think it's good that everyone realises that each modchip is different in laser management but this is nothing new.

Even the Neo2.2 had nasty effects on the laser but this was not officially mentioned.

Although it should not be said that modchips such as Magic 2 DO NOT play DVD9 as we all know they do, but it should be indicated the effect that the modchip has on the laser and any reliabilities the end user might encounter.

Is Gran Turismo Concept Geneva(jap) a dvd9? I have 39001 ps2 w/ apple chip but it won't boot the game. although I tried doa2 jap & it works.

I don't think so. I had GTC geneva and it loaded fine on a V5 PAL with Magic 2. I'll get it back and check the TOC and let you know.
