I have installed the magic 3.1 chips into a v4 and ver3, v4 100% ok, v3 loads cdr,all original games + movies but not dvdr backups. I have changed W to the alternative points also tried adjuting the dvd pod was 550 ohms to 495ohms but no diffrence - adjusted back to original - any ideas?

I've had the same problem with a V3 today.
Everything worked but DVD-R. I checked the pot and it was 1303 ohm (!), CD pot was 1368. It was a virgin PS2, never opened.
Strange things, these DVD pot values.
I set DVD pot to 1150 and now everything works. Even DVD-R.
    Oh yes, it's a PAL V3.

Ver 3's are very picky on the dvd-r media. I almost gave up with this machine till I tried Verbat*m media. Give it a try.
