Don't forget Plextor burners.
Ritek G04 media works well with my NEC 2510.
well, i had a benQ dw822a
their first dual layer writer. i burned backups of movies and games, and the boot rate of the games were about 50% if not less and on my panasonic dvd player, it would take much longer to load. i sold the benQ for half the price i bought it for, went to the store and got myself a brand new NEC 3500A. backup'd the same game, with the same ritekg04 from the same spindle, and it boots flawlessly everytime.
i dont know if it was my particular writer, but ill stay with the good brands. the benq was part of my pc package. i was chatting with the salesman and he asked why im upgrading my dual layer writer, i told him it was a benQ and he understood right away. that must have meant something.
i read reveiws on burners the day before i bought them, the LG & BenQ weren't bad, pioneer was good, but the NEC was tops. and they are all roughly the same price, except for the pioneer which are always overpriced.
