DVD drive problem.

Hi.

I installed my DMS3 today. Partial success. I had it booting up PSX backups, but no PS2 discs. I have rebuilt the damn thing so many times today that my head hurts.

The problem now is I just booted up a backup of Castlevania sotn, PSX, and it worked. I rebooted and tried a PS2 original, and the DVD spun but it didnt boot. From then on, whenever a CD game is put in, it moves VERY slowly a few times then stops. DVD games spin, but slower than full speed, and dont boot. Is this a sign that the laser needs adjusting?

I left a disc in for a while. It still boots ps1 backups, and plays orignals, but takes about 3 minutes to start to boot up. Is there a way to fix this? Its fine once its in a game.

what version ps2 is it? check the board for shorts if all else fails remove the chip check the ps2 and start over

its a V5.
I just took out the mod chip and all the wires. It still takes a while to get going. It spins an original dvd game round for a while ( 2mins) and then stops. Then 20 seconds later, it spins up again and boots the game. Once the game is booted, I get no problems at all. Load times are spot on etc... No DREs, so Im led to believe that the problem isnt the laser.... But I have no idea what the problem is.
