DVD blank media –
04-20-2005,02:55 PM
Pleas help !!
What media is OK to use on the PS2 ?
I know this helps alot on the bootrate and laser life-time.
I have tried some of the cheap DVD-R Princo, Infosmart, Bulkpack whit is same as media code as Princo.
Bootrate is not so good, depends on the disk quality and game.
Full DVD games often dont work.
Smaller dvd games up to 3 gig, works ok, good bootrate.
DVD+RW and DVD+R
Allways boots when i set booktype to DVD-ROM
DVD+RW TDK = 100% boot rate for me. booktype DVD-ROM
DVD+R TDK = 100% boot rate for me. booktype DVD-ROM
DVD+R Sony, not tested as much as above by me.. any comments ?
DVD-RW Traxdata, not so good boot rate for me..
Cus my dvd-rw is scrached a lot, dont know on new media.
Movies allso works whit out chip if booktype is set to DVD-ROM, color depend on the tv.. my frined often had black and whit on his old tv, On my new 32" WS 100hz tv there is allways color on both PAL and NSTC
The chip i use is a DUO2 on a V5.
I burn in linux and have a NEC-1300A patched burner.
The Laser on the ps2 was Adjustied (part one only, and some cleaning, this gave no strange sound from the ps2)

I don't think it would be a good idea to write the Ps2 backups at 16X...I do my at 4X it takes about 1 and half hours to burn one game about 3.5GB.

One and an half hour to write a 3.5 GB game ? Takes 6 mins to rip, and 8 to write at 6x (10 mins at 4x). It's less than a quarter then, and the quality is excellent. With a decent burner you can write at faster speeds like 12x, 16x of course only quality media, and well the one Omegatron has been looking for is not such a quality one. So I'd not go for it. Ritek faster media *G05, and faster* are quite low quality compared to their old ones. MCC04 and TY work excellent at 16x, anyway.
