duo3 gold randomly will read disks
duo3 gold randomly will read disks –
I installed a duo3 gold for a family in a v. 15 (77001) ps2, and it seems that everything is working perfectly, except it seems like a crap shoot when their legal, retail Finish games will load. I've checked all the points for continuity, even A, B, G, H, and I (which are the DVD points). All the points check out fine. This is my first time installing this type of chip, so I'm not sure what to do next to trouble shoot it. Any ideas? I've been working off the diagram located on duo's official website, btw.
*edit: chip is just a "duo 3" not "duo 3 gold"

Try the alternate 3.3v point.
alright, i just redid all the dvd points so I am positive they are fine. Should I only use that alternate 3.3v or should I use both?

the chip is from mod-chip.com and their site says its a duo 3 gold.
figured it out. The power needs to be 5v, not 3.3v. I guess this chip really is the regular duo 3, and mod-chip.com has it advertised wrong on their site. The chip seems to be working fine now.
as the nature of this chip, it does not work with 7700x too good due to boot rate problem. if you connect a 1k resistor between +5v to GND, it will help a bit.

ok, well I tested the ps2 out fine. Imports games worked, usa dvds worked, usa games worked, usa ps1 games worked. When my customer got home, they said their import game would load, but the picture was scrolling (rolling) on the screen. They said their import dvd's were doing the same thing, and their usa dvds were not loading at all. Has anyone run in to something like this?
If this was an old VHS player, I'd say the Vhold needed tweaking, but i've never heard of something like this happening. And i made sure they were using a USA bought tv, in case it might have something to do with pal/ntsc conversion. I did not have any problems on my plasma screen.
i just found this on the duo website, from the duo 3 faq:
so is there a reason that everything works fine on my plasma tv, but it does not work on a CRT tv? I'm guessing some how my plasma can read pal signals, while a standard crt tv cannot, and there is no way to force the duo3 to send a ntsc signal as I read that the matrix chip can.
Can it play movies from other regions?
No, it can not. However, it will work fine with DVD Region X in disable mode. In addition, there are some problems related with the region free feature that people often do not realize. For example on the whole, NTSC PS2 can only play NTSC DVD even though you have unlocked the region-lock problem. In addition, it is always better to use a standalone multi region DVD player for DVD movies.
anyone know more about this?
