this chip sucks so bad. i installed it in my 77001 then added the resistor to help boot times. this thing doesnt play hardly any of my dvd-r games. some games boot, some games freeze up in the middle, some dont even load, video is choppy, freezes. im fed up with this. My old 39001 played everything. what to do???????????????????

That wouldn't do anything for reading games better.
You are just going to have to get a new chip. Matrix and Crystal Chip 2.0 seem to have no problems with your version PS2.

You're right,... maybe you have one of the earlier versions of the Duo3 rubberman?
Also, if it's having problems reading the discs, that's not a modchip issue. What type of dvd-rs are you using? You shouldn't have to do any laser fix for a v13-v16 PSTwo.

i use all namebrand dvd-r's. all of these games worked perfectly fine in my old 39001 ps2 with the magic2 chip and you cant tell me the laser in the 39001 is better than the 77001 laser. Every game the video is choppy.

By 'namebrand', which do you mean? The general consensus is that Taiyo Yuden dvd-rs are your best bet. They're one of the highest quality dvd-rs, and they can be found fairly cheap (compared to some of the more expensive dvd-rs like Verbatum).
I've come across quite a few PS2s that are really finicky about what they'll read (yes... even the new ones). While one disc works absolutely perfect in one PS2, another PS2 will refuse to read it. It's just a matter of finding a brand of dvd-r that your PS2 seems to read fine.
Now don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that a modchip has nothing to do with reading a disc. Obviously if the PS2 can't read the disc, you'll get the infamous RSOD (red screen of death) - which could lead a person to believe that it's a modchip issue. But once you're into a game and you're getting choppy video or freezing, I'm pretty much 100% sure this is a laser/media issue.

name brand as in : Sony, Verbatim, Maxel, Fuji, Memorex, etc etc
i have never had any troubles with those media's for any movie or any game i did. So why is it that one time i put a game in and it plays and another time i put the same game in and it goes to the RSOD? and again when i play a game it will play fine and then i go back later to play the same game and it will be choppy.

for those of you who are installers and used the DUO3 chip in a slim PS2, have you had any issues like i have?
would a long power wire possibly be an issue? or some crossed over wires?
