Duo2SE Install Question on v9
Duo2SE Install Question on v9 –
07-13-2005,12:08 PM
I have a v9 that I am installing a duo2se in. It plays originals, it will play imports (primary reason the customer wanted it modded) but won't play backups (it just red screens). Since it plays imports does that mean that the bios is probally patched ok but it won't play backups because of the cd/dvd controller points on the bottom? I'm not sure where to start looking and I don't want to start resoldering points I don't have to.

how do you start the back up games ?
Try this.
Power on PS2
Press eject on stand by mode. (insert cd/dvd)
Press rester. (start game)
Hope this help.

Thanx but that didn't help. Usually the duo2se's are pretty good for direct boot. I've changed the chip to a brande new duo and redid and the cd/dvd controller points and even shortened all the wires to the exact length they need to be to the chip and still the same thing. Grrrrrrr.

check ground cable.
is it long or short ?

A bit long as I usually solder to the gold band around the edge. I'll try unsoldering it and moving it to a gold pad on the board.

If the chip is booting originals and imports without RSOD then wiring should be fine. Sounds like a laser problem with recordable media. Has a CD-R been tested? Are DVD/CD Pots too high (1400+ Ohms) ?

I Haven't tried a CD-R yet. As for the pots, not sure where to adjust or check those. More modchip installers, less ps2 repairer type of person.

i can say so too..
but lately more and more repairs are comming in...
and cant say no, need some extra cash this summer...
i really love to install the duo2, cheap and eazy, works ok, no so many complains of boot and worknig games. mostly dvd media problems.

I've done a bunch of them too and usually only every once in a while do I get problems like this. I always blame myself but sometimes I guess it's just the ps2 or the laser itself. I'm gonna give the pots a small twist and see what I can get done.
gigge: thx for the pm, I translated it although I use the duo2se's which don't have a y point so i don't know how relavant it will be. I hear you on the repairs too. Not that I started doing them but I've gotten lots and have two boxes full of toasted ps2's that i salvage for parts but usually it's just a cable replace here or there, a fuse to replace, etc.

Well CD-R's work and a different DVD-R media seems to be working alot better in it. I'm not sure if the laser is THIS picky at the moment that I should do the romeo mod. Does anyone think it would be better or worse off with the romeo mod.
