Duo2 on a v4/gap –
Hi folks!! I'm really happy to find this forum!!
I'm trying to install a duo2 in a v4 ps2 with gap. I'm having the same result as this guy who posted is prob on a different site but he didn't get any repply so.. here the situation:
i installed a duo2 on a ver 4 gap bios. i followed the images off of the duochip site i have installed the chip, and wires four times with the same results. if i take the chip out the ps2 works as if nothing ever been done to it. but with the chip in, the ps2 starts normal with original ps2 games then comes to the red screen asking for a ps2, or ps1 disk screen. with known working backups from another ps2, i get the red screen. if i hold the power button for 5 seconds to disable the chip, original games boot fine, and backups go to the red screen. with movies i get a disk read with the chip enabled, and work fine if i hold the power button. could this be a wiring/solder problem or might i have a bad chip?
What do you guys think about this???
Thanks for your help
Might be a bad laser, does it go to browser to boot the game? If so then the laser is bad/going bad. The game should boot when the PS2 is first turned on and the electrons are flying around. Real games boot because they are easier for the laser to read.
Or its a bad install, even if you have installed it 4 times already I don't know how well you solder. Provide some pics. Or you might be connecting a wire in the wrong spot over and over by mistake.
Other than that you could have a bad chip.
To further on what EJM said... does the PS2 play a dvd-r copy of a dvd movie (without skipping)? If not, then it's definitely a laser issue.
Thansk for your help!
When I put a real game in it... I hold the reset button for 5 sec... the console boot... I see the menu browser/configuration... 5 sec after that the game start. I'll post pictures of my installation today.

Its not the chip or the install, its the laser.
Ok!! I made some test with some dvd-r movies burned on cheap white princo disk... no problem at all... The ps2 keep going to the browser menu but the movie starts and I don't have any skipping problem.
I'll try to do some cleaning on the lens....
But I have a question... If my installation is good and my chip is good. Why I got the red screen when I put a backup in?? I should get the can't read disk error screen instead??
I'm a xbox/xbox 360 modder for a long time.... pretty new to the ps2.... this console seems to hate me hehehe.
Thanks for your help!
