Duo2 Strange problem ???
Duo2 Strange problem ??? –
I've run into a problem with a duo2 install and wondered if anyone had any ideas -
I imported a Jap limited edition PS2 about 2 months back and it was fitted with a Chinese "Turbo" chip (I believe it was a Meesiah 2 clone?), anyway that chip seem to die as I was having intermitant booting problems I decided to take it out and thought a nice DM3 would be good to use with HD Loader, well that chip in my V9 seemed to be a frigging nightmare so after three attempts at installing and then removing I admitted defeat and decided to install a trusty Duo2 (I use these on my customers PS2's).
Now I have the Duo2 installed and I've got a weird problem that I've never encounted before, my PS2 now boots original PS1 games and backups of all flavours, but only boots Jap PS2 originals .... I've looked for the obvious signs of solder splatter on the BIOS and ensured that the DVD controller points are good, but hey it's now driving me nuts ... anyone encountered this before or have any ideas?
Help greatly appreciated !
well according to the duo2 website, www.duomodchip.com the duo2 is only compatible wil pal and US machines.
This could explain why it doesn't work.
Thanks, but I don't believe that's the problem ... I think the Duo site should refer to PAL/NTSC, not PAL/US as if you do a google search the Duo2 is recommended for all region PS2's ..... can some-one please confirm this?
If this is the problem is there a way around, or just out of interest why would this be the case?
no the duo2 does not work in the jap. ps2 only pal/nstc versions it can play imports though but not install into one see the compatible section at foundmy.com
Have you actually look at the www.duomodchip.com website?
The following is take from their site.
Duo 2 Chip Compatibility Table
US v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6, v7/v8, v9, v10
Pal v3, v4, v5, v6, v7/v8, v9, v10
So you are telling me that the real site is not correct? And those sites that might be selling clones/fakes are telling the truth? Why don't you contact the real duo site to find out for yourself.
Firstly thanks for your replies.
Secondly alimon you are taking this far to personally and there is no reason to, yes I have seen the offical website, and I've also seen other sites and installers who say the duo2 works on all PS2's including Jap.
Here's an example -
Further there are no contact details or forums on the offical duo chip site to ask for clarification.
I've been involved in several scenes through the years and I know from experience that sometimes things are confused, sometimes things are referred to as US just because they are NTSC, but NTSC is also the standard that is used in Japan (this is partly due to the USA helping to rebuild/restrcuture Japan after the end of WW2, if you are interested).
Also the answers although I'm sure they are well inform do not explain how a chip that alledegly doesn't work on this model of PS2 allows PS1 backups to work, this would illustrate that Duo2's do infact have to be working to so degree wouldn't you agree?
Also if the chip doesn't work on Jap machines I'd like to try to understand why, as the boards on the PS2 (NTSC) are identical in the later models of PS2 across the world (other than the obvious exception of the first 3 Jap models), I'm trying to understand why most other chips seem compatible across the territories but not the Duo2 apparently.
Any ideas/comments are welcome.
Jinx - Don't know about working on jap machines. But the duo have always only worked for the pal and US machine only. I presume that the duo 2 is the same.
From the look of things, the site you pointed out maybe selling fake chips and they don't even know what they are selling. They even took the www.duomodchip.com from the diagram. They even wrote "World's first 17 wire install for V1-V10" does that seem right to you?
Also, duomodchip e-mail can be found in 2 places from what I see.
- warning bit
- link section
maybe you bought a fake chip?
Personally, I have never seen any real installer said that the real duo2 works on jap machines.
Ali - how can you tell if a chip is fake?
just noticed something. That site took the duo2 pic from the ps2newz site and covered up the printed d2 logo of the real chip.
Jinxter: I'm sure Duo2 will not work with JPN machines...the web site u mention is from china...which is a clone chip, there description is juz ripped from other modchip, so don't believe that was REAL...btw, i try DUO chip on a jpn machine b4, it works but required the tap reset and also some weird sound happen
hope this help
Thanks for all your help, I've now taken the Duo2 out (they came from Divineo so I believe them to not be clones) ... and after some excellent ideas I've installed the DMS3 again and got that working (apparently the DMS3 works much better if you total ignore where the DMS site says to place the chip and do the wiring from the underside of the board placing the chip as near as possible to the BIOS pins, go figure!).
To be honest though I'm still none the wiser why the Duo2 doesn't work (or in this case with PS1 backups playing, semi-works), and would still be interested in why that's the case!
