Yeah, they can be a pain.
First, gently scrape the "golden O's". The board has a resin coating on it that solder will not stick to. Gotta remove that first. Just be careful doing the scraping.
Then, a dab of flux, then solder. I've read that a few do it without flux, but it can't hurt, and often helps a tonne.
I've noticed that sometimes the whole process has to be repeated a couple times, but stick with it, and be patient.
