  1. #1 Duo2 Bad Install. Please Help!

    I have a V7 Playstation 2.

I installed a Duo2 chip into it. However, the installation failed. First let me say that I could not manage to solder the five wires to the copper pads beside the bios chip. They simply would not stick with or without flux. So, I soldered the wires instead directly to the corresponding legs of the bios chip itself. This is the diagram: http://www.duomodchip.com/english/in.../duo2se_v7.jpg. I'm referring to area 3 in the picture.

That being said, I put the PS2 back together and it boots up the normal PS2 screen. However, there's an odd buzzing/humming noise in the background which is being emitted from the TV speakers. Not only this, but none of my original PS2 games will actually boot. Before I open it again and recheck all the connections, I would like to ask two questions:

    1. Was soldering to the bios legs a bad idea for wires Q,T,U,V, and R?
    2. What's the problem, most likely?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Oh I did scrape! Believe me. I scraped till they were gleaming and shiny. Still no stick. I'll try again if no one else has a suggestion. Thank you, though!

Those always stick right away for me, no flux or scraping needed. how are you soldering to the pad?

I do this: make sure there is not a lot of solder on the iron, hold the iron in one hand and the solder in the other. Put the very tip of the iron on one side of the pad, and leave it there for away (a second, two at the most). This will get the pad nice and hot. Now put the solder on the other side of the pad. Try not to actually touch the iron with the solder. The pad should be hot enough to melt the solder and you get a nice, clean, and full solder point.

I usually flux the pads then take a little dab of solder and put it on the pads and it makes a nice round pad of solder.

Ok. I'll try re-wiring that bit. Thanks for the tips. Two more questions:

    1. Does chip placement matter? I mean, I couldn't find a single word on chip-placement for anything but v9/v10 systems. So I simply placed it where it seemed to be the most convenient.
    2. If I bridged two legs on the bios chip and manage to clean them, is it possible that no permanent damage has been done?

Thanks for all the replies. You've been a great help!
