  1. #1 DUO problems on a PAL v5
    RobertSan Guest
    Hi,
I'm trying to fix my v5 DUO install since a couple of days without much success up to now. The PS2 switches on properly (it didn't before and I had to relocate my GND) and goes to the menu without any glitches (electrons spinning and so on...) but it doesn't boot any kind of disc.
The DVD spins and it seems to be trying to do something then it keeps trying and never stops. The only difference I can hear is that it seems quieter with originals but it keeps making the same repetitive whirring sound (like when the drive is seeking).

I chose the DUO because it's easier to install but I've really out of luck until now.... Any ideas?

    Cheers

Keep all wires, like bios wires,as short as possible!!!!Make sure that wires A and R don't cross over other wires.Keep ground wire short.Checkout attachment for chip placement.

Thx scorcherboy for your advice, I have a very short ground and the BIOS wires are very short as well. I do however have a DUO modchip and not a Magic as you've got so I don't know if there are other wires on the DUO that I should ensure don't cross each other.

I've also rechecked and redone most of my points, but it still doesn't want to read any disc..... even though it starts up ok.

Try PS1 back-ups, if they boot than check again the wires on the DVD controller.

If even PS1 back-up do not work than remove the Mod, clean the PS2, test it again with originals to be sure everything is working and proceed again with mod installation.

Most important of all, take your time and always double check each soldered point.

OK, I'll try to obtain a PS1 backup and give it a try - next step will be a full re-installation.

Thx guys! I'll keep you posted.

Well, does the PS2 work without the chip ? I'd try that first. I had the same problem (it turned to be a bad chip in the end that killed the BA) So if the PS2 (without the chip, as it is completly removed) boots originals (PS1/PS2 CD/PS2 DVD) then try modding it again.

    regards, Stephen
