It is BA 5815 FM for sure. Safe way to remove BA chip is with "hot air gun". When you remove BA chip you will have normal screen on your tv ( yes, without BA ), but you still can't open the tray. When you put new BA chip on the motherboard you can open the tray. Becareful the fuse may, or may not be blown while the BA is blown for sure.
Warning: Some damaged modchips can burn your BA !! So it happened to me few times that I change the BA, and in next second it blow again. When I cut the power of the modchip the next BA works fine, when I conect the power of the modchip the BA burn again.

well, since I don't do repairs, it's not worth it for me to buy a hot air gun for just one job. is there another way other than a hot air gun? also, in regards to my question about turning off the main power without first placing the ps2 on standby. I was made aware that in the PS2 manual, there's something in there that says not to turn off the main power without first placing the system on standby.
I know a lot of people just do that and nothing happens to the ps2, but could it be possible that maybe the system was trying to load something, and while it was loading, the main power was suddenly cut off leaving all this electricity running frantically for a place to ground itself and as a result, blow a fuse? can someone with electrical engineering expertise, answer this question for an amateur with a degree in sociology?

Um, I'm a computer engineering student, not that it matters , but I highly doubt it.

I dont think so, too ! I do the same to many consoles, and nothing happened. But I change a lot of BA chips without knowing the reason why they burn, they just burn. I have notice that sometimes unstable electric power can be a reason.

    regards, and good luck
