DUO 3 and PS1 games
I installed a DUO 3 chip in my PS2 Slim (70012) this week. Everything worked perfectly except the PS1 games. My PSTwo can boot PS1 games, but the video output is blurred and is not centered in the middle of the TV screen (PS2 games are fine). When I play Tekken 3 (no matter the original version or the backup version), there are a lot of 3d rendering errors in the actual fighting scene.
I didn't try PS1 games in my PS2 Slim before, but I did try the same games in another old PS2 non-slim, no video centering problem or rendering error at all.
I'm wondering whether the PS1 compatibility problem was caused by the DUO3 chip, my soldering process or the PS2 slim itself ?

Just noticed the same thing in a Ver14 here.
Odd that there hasn't been any mention of this in the Duo3 thread.
Maybe it's an isolated case.

I just noticed that my original Tekken 3 runs perfectly after disabling the DUO 3 chip in my PS2 slim (by holding the reset button for 2 - 3 seconds to turn on the PS2 slim). So the PS1 problem must be caused by either the limitation of the DUO3 chip itself or my solidering process. PS2 slim shouldn't be blamed in this case.

So far I installed the Duo 3 in a v4,v7,v14 and they all do that for ps1 games. I don't think I will be re stocking these chips.

I installed on in a NTSC V9 and didnt notice this issue. I have yet to install a Duo3 in a V12+
EDIT: The Duo3 can be forced into PSX mode (bypass auto boot) have you guys tried to see if that helps anything?

I tried to force Duo3 to work in PSX mode. The video output is still problematic as before. The only way I know at this time to fix this problem is to disable Duo3 by holding the reset button for a few seconds when turning on the machine.
By the way, I tried both composite video output and component video output just now. Same errors happened in both configurations.

I am guessing there just bad chips. I had a Duo 3 that had the same video issue and it was also shaky and both ps2 and ps1 games were messed. I replaced the chip and its works fine only thing is that ps1 games still do this...

So they're not bad chips then, if your replacement continues to display poorly in PS1 mode.
Nothing wrong with PS2 games on 3 slim installs here, but they all display PS1 incorrectly.....bye bye Duo3, I won't be restocking either.

I also noticed that the screen is a little blurred and not centered when booting backup ps1 games in a v7 ps2 w/ Duo3 chip installed. I have installed 2 of them in v7's and I had the same results. Strange... But I also will not be restocking these chips.

i think its the version ice code that it uses
