duo 3 problems –
i installed a duo 3 (regular not gold) chip in a 7701 ps2. I cannot get it to read import dvd movies. I still get the "wrong region" screen. It plays regular USA dvd movies fine. Also, when the ps2 is hooked up to a normal CRT television, regular USA games and import games will show up black and white and the screen will scroll. I've reinstalled the chip 4 times now using the wire guide on the duo website, and I cannot resolve these issues. I've shortened wires, made them cross less, made sure they are down on the board, tested them for continuity...everything seems ok. When the ps2 is hooked up to my plasma screen, games show up perfectly, no scrolling, full color.
What am I missing?
I don't know much about the Duo 3 but it sounds like your CRT TV cannot handle 50Hz but the plasma can. The real question is: Why is your Duo3 forcing NTSC games, which are normally 60Hz, to 50Hz on your NTSC PS2? Does Duo3 have an option to force video mode or something like that? If so, turn it off.
It doesn't sound like an installation problem to me, more like a software/chip firmware issue.. This goes for the DVD "Regional Restrictions" thing too..
right. it definitely sounds like a firmware or other chip problem. I do not think there is any way to tell the chip to force ntsc, at least I cannot find any such option on the duo website.
I'm assuming that even if the chip did unlock the region to view import dvd's, they would be displayed at pal standards, so they would appear messed up on the screen also. On the duo website it does say that this chip does not unlock the region. I was hoping some one else might be able to confirm this, or confirm all of the problems I am having as being attributed to the chip.
