I have a duo2 chip installed my ps2. When I boot with the chip disabled, it boots orginals perfectly. However, booting backups is a different story. I keep getting the red please inserts ps2 disc screen. Randomly the backup will boot but it usually takes 6-7 tries. At one point they were working first time but now it takes a bit. Any suggestions? i checked the wires but they look ok, any specific wires I should check to make sure?
Probably your laser. After booting that much backups it's only natural that it wears down.
shut off the pwoer to the system, when you disable the chip you have to this or it won't boot backups..
I find with the Duo2 is that if the laser readsthe disk right away, No clicking then the backup will boot fine. otherwise if you hear a bunch of clicking noises before the laser picks up on the dvd-r then the duo just wont boot it even after it does manage to read the disk.. Make any sense?
Strangely the messiah2 will boot even after a bunch of laser clicks...

darkmaster, anyway to get the laser to read the backup more reliably? also, i do almost always shut off the ps2 using the main power when trying to boot backups
Well, 95% of the time, you can fix the problem by cleaning the lens first, then tweak the pots on the back of the laser down 50 - 100 ohms (but never below 600 - 700)
