Hmm... only the plastic and black screen?
    Definitely change D & E wires.

But I'd suggest you put the plate back before you test, several ground point on the system board are connected by the plate, otherwise some points are isolated. You don't have to put the small screws back, just clip it back on.

yeah i suspect the d&e wires are the culprit as they cross like EVERY other wire.. and also the mess is ontop of the BGA area... oh well.. I will drop it off with this other guy hopefully tonite, got nothing to lose I guess, except a dead ps2 if he F*CKS it so that it can't play originals no more.. but i guess thats the risk involved with this kinda stuff..

There shouldn't be any risk when you go with a pro isntaller. I would pay a visit to the guy who messed up your system and ask him to fix it if I were you.

But how do u really know a "pro" installer as opposed to some clown that does it as a hobby? cos the first guy I took it to, was in this REALLY DODGY place.. like an abandoned old shop with a little desk in the corner (not that I have anything against that).. but what worried me is when he was talking about the power and ground, saying the 30AWG wire was fine, and it's not like they're short as well!.. thats why I'm kinda reluctant to bring it back to the first guy, he also wasn't too helpful, was like "oh your chip is dead, gives a black screen" so then I was like "well can u do anything to try and fix it?" and he goes "No"...

well I'll give this other guy a go and see how, otherwise it may be onboard a plane on it's way to South Oz to visit shadow

Well, when deciding on an installer it's always good to ask if they have refs, pictures of their work, what their warrenty on work done is and questions of that nature. Especially if you're going to give up your PS2 and hard earned cash. Without seeing the pic of the install I would still chalk alot of your troubles up to the installer and the remainder to a hyper sensitive, overpriced, under supported modchip.

i fully agree with u homegrown, but its hard when u have very little options, especially in my area.. unlike the states or europe where u have multitudes of pro installers.. thats why I initially took it on myself to install as I knew I'd take much better care installing it,than someone trying to rush the job, but I just got a little too frustrated trying to troubleshoot it, so decided to let someone else have the problem..but i guess that didnt solve it!..

Hey, it's not as bad as you were saying. It's a normal install, the wire aren't placed as well as the super neat install you can see on the forum but it's decent work IMO.

I dont have any pics of v9 dms3 installs but this is where i position the chip. I tried to show with yellow and red lines where the wires should go. 22 gauge wire for power ( A ) and ground ( B ). All other wires should be 30 gauge wire. I never ever position the dms3 on the far right hand side of the board unless its a v4 gap then i have to due to. Keeping your bios wires short will dramaticlly reduce interference with components on the board, and you dont have to worry about screws pinching the wires when you put the metal cage back on. Click HERE for a example of what im talking about, this is a v7 board not a v9.
