Whats the downside/negative effects of having a Mod chip? I heard you cant go online,cheatdevices/games (didnt work), and possibly damage to the console?
-Btw as you may see im a noob about mod chips and was interested in purchasing one.
Yeah there are some downsides. If you buy the right modchip you can decrease these downsides. Cheat devices will work with some modchip because the modchip creators took their time to make it compatible. So if you buy the right modchip you will be able to use these devices. As for going online, you can with a modchip. I'm not aware of any games that you can't go online with if you disable the modchip and use the original disc. Possible damage to the console is rare. There's a much higher chance you damage the console if you do not know how to install the chip properly. But if you do, most likely your console will be fine.
Tony was bang on. Here are the positives and negatives I see about a modchip
-You gain the ability to play any import game and/or DVD
-You gain the ability to run homebrew ps2 apps like hdloader or exec_ftps
-You can enhance your games by putting them on backups, such as transferring CD games (that work the laser a lot) to DVD discs
-Your friends will want to play more PS2 with you
-You must disable the chip to play online games
Making backups of online games isn't practical
-Installing a mod chip has definite risks whether damage to console or fraudulent installers
-You end up spending more money on PS2/games... even if some of that money doesn't end up getting paid to Sony or its partners.
-Adding a mod chip is freakin expensive! Doing it yourself doesn't save you any money
in the short term unless you already have all the necessary materials.
-Your friends will want to play your PS2 more
-People with modded Xboxes will try to tell you why xbox mods are superior ;-)
