Does having a modchip (vs swap magic dvd) improve PS2 laser performance?
Right now I have a brand new V9 PS2.
To make a long story short:
1) I'm using Swap Magic v2.0 DVD to boot my DVD-R/DVD+R games. Most of games are VERY choppy. I've tried LOTS of media (Ritek G04 DVD-R, TDK DVD+R, etc etc).
2) If I was to get a modchip (DMS3 or something), would that IMPROVE laser performance? Would my DVD-R/DVD+r games suddenly stop skipping?

The only benefit of having a modchip (that I'm aware of) is that you can *more easily* boot games. Once the games are booted and playing, the only factor in performance if the laser, right?
...or does the modchip matter as well?
