    I have a ps2 v9 (SCPH-50000MB/NH)(JAP) and I intend to mod it with DMS3 v9. Is there any point to take note off"

    Measure the tracking coil resistance, check here for instructions on how to do that. Either way, if you have one of them bad lasers, your console will die sooner or later whether you mod it or not but modding it thus allowing your PS2 to read recorded media (backups) which are harder to read than originals will put more stress on the LA chip and possibly shortening it's life even more. Possible solutions include replacing the bad laser with a good one, adding heating compound to the LA chip or as people have been speculating right now, add resistors in series to the tracking coils to increase their resistance. So far laser replacement is the only proven working method though.
