Do you think i can do it?

so here is the deal i have a modded PS2 with a dead laser and a brand new unmodded Ps2! they are both slim! so i was thinking about removing the modchip from the bad one and installing it in the new one! how hard is it? i am not a noob when it comes to soldering and all i can do it! not like a genius but i make it work! i know things ! do you think i should just remember where things go(take a picture) and then put them back in the new one? tell me on a scale of 1-10 how tough could this be? thank you

Removing it isn't that hard, but I'd say don't try to solder if you don't have experience with very small points, or the chance is high that you fry your PS2.

How hard is it?
If 1 is easy and 10 super-hard, I'd say it is atleast a 7-8.

(Maybe only my meaning: ) Another thing is,... No, you'll need a plan for your board-revision. You can't simply remember, where which wire belongs to (a few of them are in the same location, but not all of them).

Installing a modchip is difficult but certainly not impossible. Just because both ps2's are slims doesn't mean that they are the same version, they might be completely different inside. First, I think you need to find out what versions they are and if they are different find out if your modchip will work in the new one. If you do solder in the modchip, don't use too much solder and tin your wires and connections before you solder them. After you solder, carefully inspect for solder bridges.

Another option might be to use FMCB. It would enable you to play backups (using ESR and patched games) just like a modchip. Even your ps2 with a dead laser could be used to play games from a USB drive or from LAN by using OPL. Of course, FMCB only works with some versions of slims so this may not be an option for you.

I've installed a few modchips in fat ps2s, but I never opened a slim, so I don't know if this would work, but I wonder how hard it would be to move the laser instead. That shouldn't involve soldering/desoldering and would give you the same result (a ps2 with working laser and modchip). As i've said, I've never worked on a slim, so someone else might need to give advice as to whether this is easier or even feasible.

i am asking this because i already use FMCB and was thinking i can probabely Mod the new PS2 i have and sell it since i dont need it! i have like 4 PS2s that have a bad lense and 2 brand new unmodded Ps2s so that means i have 4 modchips laying around doing nothing so i figured! i think i am going to give it a try! + do you guys have a guide here for modding? thank you :)

Switch the lense from the new unmodded PS2 into the older modded PS2. If you desire, you could probably switch out the cases as well so that it will look new.

Post model number of the consoles.
