Do 5v chips hurt the ps2 in the long run?
Do 5v chips hurt the ps2 in the long run? –
I've reading posts regarding this issue and seen some people say yes and others no to this question.
I'm about to replace a messiah2 pro with a duo2se (because of codebreaker 8 support).
I have been using the messiah2 pro for over a year now on v7 NTSC machine with no problems.
I guess I just want to hear from people who have been using 5v chips for a while now without trouble or if you have had trouble with these chips please post.
as a modder, I don't really have any troubles with 5v chips; however, I prefer 3.3v chips
Been running a Duo on my V2 since April 04 and I haven't run into any issues.
Voltage is nothing to worry about. If a chip dumps a large amount of current into the wires, THAT could cause a problem. But since this is not something which is ever measured and discussed, it's pointless to even worry about.
That being said, I would suggest you consider buying a different chip which is not based on the SX(Scenix) chip, simply because FPGA or CPLD-based chips are better equipt to handle patching multiple busses. You'll find that DUO and other chips like it which use a SX chip result in more RSODs(and black screens) than other chips. But if you're ok with that, the DUO should be fine.
Thanks for the info, this is what I wanted to hear.
I read alot of comments about the Duo2se and all of them were good, people claim is just as reliable as the Messiah2 pro, but I'll wait and see. I think I will install it and try it for a couple of weeks and if I see the RSOD a lot I'll take it out.
Duo2SEs do not RSOD randomly as Unfinity is kind of suggesting. They work great. Will only RSOD if your laser is too crappy to read the disk efficiently.
Yah I was about to say the same thing. I got about the same amount RSODs on DMS3+, MXL2, etc as I did with the Duo.
Those are unbelievable prices! does this include return shipping? I have a v5 that has a magic chip + chip clip that i would like resoldered. whats the price for that?
i usely dont use any 5v chips ..... but i recently got a dou2se chips in stock ... what can i say ... work perfectly ... i dont have any problems with any version of ps2 (v9,10 i fixing 5v to la chip) .
i have tried apple chips before as well working on 5v didnt have any problems .
