    Hiya!!!

I found from a friend an almost-new-slightly used v4 PS2 + network adapter forgotten in storage
I want to mod it (ofcourse) but I ma puzzled what is the best choise: the DMS4 or the Crystal2 chips? Both have 2MB flash as I see and I want to store there HDLoader.
I hear that with Crystal chips you don't have to reset the console to change games, is it true? If so it is a good feature !

I currently have my own v9 PS2 with a MarsPRO chip, loading FMCB+HDLoader via mc.. it would be nice to get rid of the mc and use internal storage

regardless, you have to have a memory card. even to run the virtual MC, you have to have a physical one to launch from. that and a hard drive along with a USB stick. A mod chip on a ps2 is almost completely pointless these days.

Yep, both have the Dev3 Flash booting.
The DMS4 Pro series chips have a built-in ToxicOS (upgraded HDL) and you can additionally add HDLv0.8c. But bootlegninja is right, you still need a MC if you want to save any game saves.

Not true, there was a plan to add that as an option, but was never implimented in any chip im aware of.

However, ffgriever did make an app IGR (in game reset) that does allow you to return to the HDL Games List screen to select a different game without needing to reset the console, but not all games work with it.

You mean it has an IGR for Game discs? What good is that, since you still have to change the discs for a new game......

I havent really used my CC to play backup discs, so ive never tried it that way, but i can say it dont work for Homebrew or HDL, as ive tried and nothing ever happened.

    thanks for the answers

ofcourse I will have a mc for game saves, I am hoping to get rid of FMCB and load HDLoader via modchip flash...
looks like I will get the DMS chip...

also I do not agree with the comment of a modchip being useless in a ps2... whatever you do, with a modchip you can do A LOT easier....

I have a mod chip in mine. but if I were to decide between chip and fmcb today, I'd choose fmcb. as it stands, my chip does nothing right now since I rarely use discs in it. FMCB handles all application loading even though I do have a Matrix Infinity that can handle both DEV1 and DEV2 booting.

I completely agree. I originally bought a Duo3 Ultra chip for my system, but once I loaded FMCB onto my memory card, I never use it anymore. I don't even know how to load any apps to the chip's memory. I rarely, if ever, use discs (the rare case I play my PS1 backups) myself. In my opinion, the modchip (at least for the PS2) is obsolete.

I guess its more a matter of preference on whats best per personal useage.

I too prefer to use FMCB over my chips, but on the other hand, i still find a few advantages the chips offer that FMCB doesnt, like the ability to boot a backup ps1/ps2 on the fly without needing to re-burn a patched version or any swap methods.

having tried both now, I like the DMS4 way better , infact I am thinking of removing the cc2 and install another dms4 there... I don't really see the big deal on the cc2 , unless my install is terrible or my v3 ps2 is not working well with it... There is the onboard flash (good) but having HDLoader in there is not such a big deal (for me) it still takes time to boot the ps2 , then the hdl to read the HDD... whereas in the DMS4 situation the bootup to hdl time is half... plus several other issues the cc2 has, I disabled it (6-times-reset) to test FMCB , and I could not re-enable it , even after power-off. I had to re-flash it... and another "slowdown" problem I am facing that I describe in the CC forums... will definitely give it 2-3 more shots though , maybe I have not realized it's full potential yet!
