DMS3 on v4 probelms...
Hey everyone, I am having trouble installing a dms on my friends v4 no-gap bios. I think that v4 is the hardest to mod considering the cd laser controler is very hard to soldier on to. So, I installed it and it boots up. And it takes time to load like my other DMS machines, (takes some time to go into the ps2 menu after starting up) it runs ps2 origionals, (dvd, and cd media), It also will say that a backup is a "Ps2 Disc" in the browser, but it will start to load up but then the laser will stop spinning abruptly and it will go into the red screen of death.
Also, it does not go into Dev.Olution mode, so I am guessing that it may be a power/ground issue? The power is two kylanar wires, and the ground is one wire I took from an eithernet wire.
don't use kynar for power, if you have to use another piece of cat5 like you did for the ground. that being said, it could also be the cat5 wire, so you might want to consider using some better stuff.
double-check your C point, make sure it's in the right place otherwise the chip will always sleep and it will do nothing.
and last, check all your bios wires. route D and E seperately, meaning keep them from running directly along side each other.
The chip now boots backups about 50% of the time, and I tried to update the bios 3 times, and the fourth was a success, I got some error: 0000000 and somthing like that. I think since it works only some of the time there may be a power problem. If there was a bios broblem or a cd controler problem it would not boot backups at all would it?
Sound lilke a laser problem. If it's an original laser, then you may need to replace it with 400 C laser which I did on my ps2 GAP. Old laser takes a while to detect and sometimes doesn't work either.
Humm, also, I found that it booted up the DMS boot cd when the ps2 was in the upright position. It sounds like a new laser to me.
How do I know if the ModChip is always working, maybe DMS explorer mode? I need a memory card though.
