DMS3 Tests –
Just to let you all know, just tested DMS3 on JAP SCPH15000 and all PS2 DVDr, CDr and PAL originals worked fine. It does not want to boot any PSone titles. DVD movies still work fine.
I done the V1.2 upgrade and now it boots into a blank screen every time. I replaced the chip with a standard one, and now it's working again.
The PS2 game booting seems to be very stable, much more stable than Magic.
WILL TEST IT WITH PAL V7 LATER
PALv7 080 DMS3 (did not work with updated chip from SCPH15000)
PS2 CDr = O.k. (FIRST TIME)
PS2DVDr = O.K. (FIRST TIME)
PS2 IMPORT = O.K. (FIRST TIME)
PSone CDr = O.K. + SCREEN FIX (FIRST TIME)
DVD = O.K. (ONLY TESTED ZONE2)
RGB GREEN SCREEN = FIXED
Updates worked O.K.
kinda related... but hoping not to get offtopic too much (and maybe even get some useful help here).
Modded 2 V7 Consoles with DMS3 yesterday.. besidesthe fact that i have somehow wrecked one of their dvd drives both mods worked perfectly before and after the 1.2 upgrade.
PS2 original, PS2 Backup (CD and DVD-R) , PS1 Original and PS1 Imports worked fine, as well as the Devo mode to flash the chip.
Only problem is, after the mods the dvd drive of one of these consoles started acting up. it doesn't accept any DVD media anymore - even PS2 originals or Movies. it still accepts all the above PS1 (original+backup+import) and PS2 CD backups/originals. When instering any DVD disc the drive only makes a clicking noise.
I removed the DMS and the problem didn't disappear, so i put the drive from the second ps2 into the broken one and it accepted dvd media again.
seeing that i was quite sure the laser got either broken od the adjustment wasn't ok as only the higher density dvd media didn't work. fortunately i got hold of a broken v3 console (dvdrom motors broke) and replaced the laser unit with the v7 one, hoping that't fix it at least for a certain time.
to my total confusion the problem did NOT change at all... CD media of any kind work, DVD media of any kind only clicks repeatedly.
does anyone have a good explanation for this? why does it work with a replacement drive but not when i replace the laser unit?
unlike the v3 drives, the v7 drives do no have any comparable pcb which could be defective... besides the lser and the motors there's only very few that could be faulty, but still it will not load dvd media but nicely accepts anything else i feed it with...
after all, the DMS3 itself is a very nice and stable mod and i can't wait until i can fix my own ps2 again (of course, perfectly matching murphys law the one that broke was MY OWN ps2.. my mate's works like a charm ).
When you do an installation watch out that you do not bridge any of the points on the DVD/CD detection component (CXP103049) also watchout for solder splatter on CXD961 this can cause the lens to go faulty on DVD reading. I had this problem on a repair I got in last week.
Now for my problem,
I installed a diffirent DMS3 on the same SCPH15000 as before, and once again I did the upgrade (v1.2). And as I expected the same problem again. When I run a PS2 title it boots into a blank screen, it does not give the PS2 logo. I tried the 3 times reset thing, but then screen stays blank until I press reset again. Is this maybe an issue with the 15K models. I'd like to test it on my V7, but I have lost 2 of these chips due to an upgrade, there is no F@#$ way I'm wasting another one.
I have alo tried installing the "upgraded" chip in my v7, but there it only turns on when I use sleep mode.
Does anybody out there know how to solve this problem.
No, the 15K console wouldn't boot V1.1 so I went straight to V1.2. Both the chips that I put in this console do not work in any other console I haved tried, The console will only turn on once you put the chip in sleep mode. If I leave the chip in the JAP console it turns on and tries to boot, but goes straight to black screen.
I tried the upgrade on my V7 console, and it worked fine it now also boots Prisoner of war that is written on a dyson DVDr (This was the only title that freezed with the DMS)
I think that there must be an issue with the 15K consoles, since all the PAL consoles I have tried worked just as great and had the same stability as the Titan or Messiah.
I don't can upgrade my chip DMS3, I put the upgrade of the dms3's page on a CD but when I put this cd on my Play2 it isn't read this and don't upgrade. what do you do for upgrading your chip? Sorry I you don't understand me, I am Spanish and only speaks English very bad. When I put the CD in the console, they asked me if I tried go to the memori or the pay2 cd but if I press in the Play2 it go all the times to this sreen. Help me for upgrading my chip please¡¡¡
Hm, might sound like my problem. But there weren't any splatters and the likes, but i definitely have a problem with DVD reading now with that particular drive.
also watchout for solder splatter on CXD961 this can cause the lens to go faulty on DVD reading
The fact that even after removing the chip it didn't accept DVDs anymore but a replacement drive from the v7 console of a mate worked instantly indicates that the lens in fact has some permanent damage now, right?
My problem is to make sure it's definitely the laser and nothing else within the drive, because getting a new laser is possible bt not wuite cheap. If i'd buy one just to see it still doesn't work i wouldn't be happy
I've updated two dms3 in a row. Just insert the cd and press the triangle while resetting your ps2. this will jump into the devo mode and you can select to boot from memory car or cd. Then i chose cd and it immediately started to boot and the update window opened asking if i really want to start the update (x).
but when I put this cd on my Play2 it isn't read this and don't upgrade. what do you do for upgrading your chip?
There might be another way, but this one worked for me instantly, so you might have a go with that method
I am very glad to say that I found the problem. "THE V1.2 UPGRADE DOES NOT WORK WITH SCPH15000". I have taken one of the chips which I updated on the 15K (and then did not work) and installed it on a JAP 30000 v4 console and what do you know, it works perfectly. This means that there was no problem during the flashing prosidure. (It's just wierd that pressing reset 3 times did not reset it to the old code on the 15K model)
Just another note it seems as if the 3.3v point specified in the diagrams for v4 falls down to 2.5v when connected to the DMS chip. This causes the console to act as if no chip has been installed, try the same 3.3v point as the Titan and Messiah chips. On the other hand it could maybe just have been this console.
What software are you using to burn the image file, what console do you have?
The Actel chip spec (as with Messiah) is 2.6v - 2.9v although I'd have thought there would be tolerance there. By God, Messiah 2 needed that tolerance!

I'd recommend the same 3.3v point as Messiah 2 if it is different in the DMS3 diagram. This point has been chosen for stability at the right point in the boot cycle.
Let us know please.
The DMS has a 2.5v regulator on the pcb, this means that as long as the input voltage is about 2.9v - 3.5v the chip should work fine.
