I am going to buy a new PS2 today, I am going to try to get a V7. I have been deciding between a Matrix Infinity and a DMS3 and there is one question I have about the DMS3 chips. If I insert a game, am I able to direct boot the game and the main menu or do I have to reset the ps2 to boot the backup game.
I have a V7 and I just pop the disc I want to use right in and it boots it without having to reset it.
This is because the DMS3 defaults to PS2 mode, if nothing is pressed during startup. So yes, pop in a PS2 and she'll play.
But, put in a PS1 or movie, and you will have no choice but to reset and select a boot method.
Why I prefer the Infinity... auto-detect EVERYTHING.
I have to reset sometimes to get ps2 games to work. I have a dms chip with a V7 (maybe a V6) i belive, and the only time i really have to reset is if i want to switch games. (from a backup to a backup) Also, with originals, I have never had to switch modes or any of that. It just boots right up. DMS is a great choice if you are going to install the ps2reality player and/or emulators to your mem card, and the flash updates are a nice feature....but theres another chip out there if you arent going to use the extra features.
Movies and Ps1 games will require you to hold down a button before you reset, and hold it until the playstation logo.
