DMS3 install problem in PS2 v4
DMS3 install problem in PS2 v4 –
09-08-2003,07:44 PM
After installation of a DMS3 v2 in a v4 PS2, all disks (orig and backup PS1 and PS2) fail authentication. Disks spin and are read but each time I get the "red" screen saying that the disk is invalid.
Also, when I disable DMS3 by booting with the open tray button, I have the same issue: all disks still don't authenticate.
BUT: Using a mem card (which was installed on another console) with DMS explorer and PS2 Reality Mediaplayer, I can go into DEV mode en start PS2RM.
All suggestions to solve this are highly appreciated.
thx,

Clean the laser eye! Make sure the disk is spinning. Do you hear clicking? ALL v1-4 are suspect for laser problems. Try to use CDROM based games NOT DVD/DVDR games for testing at first. And of course CHECK ALL wiring!

I swapped the DVD unit of the modded v4, with the DVD unit of another PS2 v4 (unmodded) and now the modded v4 works perfectly. So I guess it's not the wiring which was wrong but the laser which is causing me trouble...
The weird thing is that the DVD unit which did not work in the v4 with modchip (could not even read original games), works in the unmodded v4 (i.e. it can read the same original games which did not work in the modded v4, although not fluently). So the DMS3 makes the disk authentication process more sensible? Is that possible? Or does that mean I have badly installed the DMS3 (wires too long?)?
I'll try to clean the lens, or try to adjust it if cleaning doen't solve the issue. Thanks all for your help. (all comments how to process fixing the "bad" DVD unit are still welcome!)

Its always easier for the PS2 to read original games. But when the laser is poor It has a real hard time reading backups. Trying different types of media to find what works best in this case helps.

I cleaned the lens and did some pot tweaking. It works again! It can read most media. Thanks all for your help!
