The v8 holds some surprises for modchip developers. They'll be overcome.
I can tolerate another delay if it means V8 support.
that was already posted in the news section, in the DMS3 thread.Originally posted by Labomba

Ya, I dont like delays, but ofcourse this is something that must be corrected before it is released. Just hope they hurry
The Russian 39008/090 was GH-019.Originally posted by Guichi
send the word charlie. the new jap one seems different
The Jap and HK 090s are GH-022 and there are differences at PS2 level (not BIOS) that do not have any effect on the modchips below BIOS 090. Sort of thing!
Well it was my understanding that this chip was (upgradeable) this means of course the chip could be released in its beta form and as updates are made on the code you could (FLASH) it and not worry correct? Any bugs that may have crept up or a version addition could be corrected right?
But if the modchip isn't detected by the PS2 how would you flash it?
Just release the dam thing and come up with dms4 wich support v8 later. If Sony releases v9 or v10 next couple months then we have to wait that long for them to program those too?
A week more delay is not such a bad thing. If you look at the vendor's point of view, what's the use of releasing a product that does not support the latest vesion of PS2? Eventually, you will reach a point when the previous PS2 version will be more scrace than the new version. At that point how do you predict how many non-compatible v8 chips should you manufacture and how much would it cost to switch gears of pressing/programming the new revision chips? Either way, just for week, you have a huge potential of being stuck with a batch of chips that would be hard to sell.
One week delay is not a lot. What they should do is release the chip they do have now to interested beta testers of sites like these. This would be a considerable advantage of giving creditbility of the chip while appeasing the scene junkies. Most people are waiting for others to be guineapigs anyways.
