    Original Problem:

    -------------------------
Mine on this occacion is magic homebrew, been working for 2 weeks then turned on one day to and it wouldn't read the disks.

The console has not been moved from its usual position from the day it was chipped.

I do not think that this is down to it being a homebrew mod itself as it is working fine in other versions and posts from different chip installs have given the same symptoms.

Mod has been removed to leave the same symptoms, no disk is detected in the drive and if X is pressed at the Browser then after a while it just says ERROR READING DISK.

I have checked points A-I for splashes/bridges and solder balls but they are clean.

I am now looking for a way to test the cd/dvd controller without going through the normal boot sequence to see if this chip has been damaged.

Including my own this is the third post I have seen here regarding consoles being left with the ERROR READING DISK problem with no significant course of action to test for why this may have happened, except for wire check/remove mod.

This is my spare(old v3(020)) test machine so it is not a great loss but would like to be able to eliminate the modding process alone from being the cause.
    ----------------------------

I am curious about the 5v point on the v3 (020 bios).

I have seen 2 points for the 5volt line.

    1. On the transistor leg itself.

    2. The small point under the ribbon cable from the cd by the GND point.

On this install I used the small via point not the component leg.

Its weird the way it worked for 2 weeks and did not go off during play just would not come up after being turned off normally.

What is the makeup of this homebrew? a 5v input only or a 3.3v point as well? What voltage is output from the various pins? Has 22 awg wire been used for GND and Power?

It is the Hombrew magic using rce_785.asm with 1:1 code, no additions.

Socketed scenix chip with resonator and 33k across resonator and 33k on reset.

    5volt power only used.

Power GND and Reset are a little heavier that recomended and very short as the mod is fitted into the HD bay.

The voltage reading from the 5v point I used is currently 5.13v

As I stated above, flawless operation for two weeks, turned off one night then next day no disk read.

During all the testing over the past few days (it's been alot) it has gone to the red screen once but all other times just to the browser.

Thanks - what's the voltage coming out on S and other points? In fron of and behind the RST resistor?

  8. #8 Chip and wire now out

I have now fully backed out of the install, no wires connected at all.

But current voltage at the S point 1.7 volts and reset point is 3.54 volts
