Disk reading issues (repairing a broken pstwo)
Disk reading issues (repairing a broken pstwo) –

Okay, I got this pstwo in for repair, it was a user who did his own install.. and it was a mess and not booting at all. I reinstalled it and then it booted fine, just that the laser wouldn't spin. I understood as much as that it was his laserfix install that was the problem (burned resistors I think).
So I fiddeled arround with it and then decided to replace all dodgy resistors. I did that and now the laser spins and everything but it still won't read any types of disks...
so has anyone got any ideas what else could cause this?
below you can you can see some pictures of before the re-install, the re-install and the replaced resistors. I have marked one resitor, one of the 68k ones. The wierd thing is that it measures like 50k instead of 68k when connected to the mobo. So I removed it and it has arround 100k between those spots when the resistor is removed (68k in parallel with 100k gives something like 50k so that explains the 50k). Is that normal?

I would love it if someone could help me.

Try cutting off the diodes on that Laser fix and do not use them then just use the PIC chip part of the fix and maybe try putting in 30K resistors instead. It may be that the lens is blown also. You also need to replace the focus coil resistors. It looks as if you just replaced the tracking coil resistors

thanks for the reply.
All the blue resistors are new ones that I replaced. I tried with a laser from another pstwo but it didn't read the disks anyway. And the laserfix has been removed, I haven't put it back and I won't do so untill I can get it to read disks.
