Disc wont turn

My ps2 is a v10, I installed a DMS3 and it toasted the LA chip and the laser coils (arrrg!).

I have replaced the laser and the chip (with a LA6508R2) and now the disc will not turn. Everything seems to operate normally, laser searches for disc, browser screen appears, drawer opens and closes etc. I checked the surface mount fuses. The ribbon cable to the motor has continuity.
I removed the DMS3 before making repairs.

Any help will be welcome. My kids are mad because I killed their toy.
