Hey guys.. my buddy wanted his ps2 modded so i said id do it.. its a v10 so i test and make sure it will read dvd-r movies.. boots perfect.. install a chip and then try.. backups wont boot but originals will.. remove the chip and do the romeo mod then reinstall the chip.. now it wont boot anything! (the disc wont spin).. i tired removing the power for the chip and i still got the same result!!

Any ideas?i know i didn't break the pin on the la chip and i soldered to a 5v source..

    Need some help asap!!
    Thanks

PS: i do consider my self somewhat professional at soldering and installing ps2 chips as ive done a ton.. none with serious problems that werent fixable thanks to the help at the scene on my first few.. but this is the first problem ive ran into on the fatties in a long time.. I checked all my points with a mulitmeter and all are good..

    Thanks again!

Hmmm, check around the la chip, make sure there are no bridges, or better yet use a multimeter to check that out. Also check the ribbon cables pins, they might be bent in or something.

Check the ribbon cable... The pins underneath the ribbon cable might be bent. If that's not the problem then I'm stuck along with you. Also, check all the fuses. Make sure none are blown.

ok if im looking at the board so that the controller port ribbon conntor is rite in front of me and the usb ports are bottom right.. the la chip is top left.. and i lifted/solder the 3rd pin up (from the bottom of the la chip) on the right side.. i soldered this to what i saw online as a 5v source..
i checked all resistors and still all have continuity!!

    Any other ideas?
    thanks

sounds corect to me some have lifted Pin #4 insted of 3 .

Check the ribbon cable from the spindle motor to the motherboard, and the ribbon cable to/from the laser head. Check all fuses. also see if you have blown the LA chip

la chip looks prefect.. the cable on the laser head was out a lil bit.. reinserted.. the motor cable was prefect and then powered on and no spin at all.. go to browser, open, close it, says read disc for less than a second and then shows "no data".. any other ideas?
