Got a V5 here that is chipped with a Magic 3.1. Intro screen comes up fine, but the the disk doesn't spin, just a litte spin when you turn on the machine, after that it's like it doesn't have a dvd player at all. Opened it up and removed the chip, still the same. Anyone experienced something similar? Is the BA chip dead or could it be some kind of fuse? Sounds almost like a V5 with a V9 issue ^^

Have you check the ribbon cable that connects the Head with the board?? Your ps2 behaves like there is no Laser Head. Maybe the ribbon cable is loose!
Yes, I did check that. Seems to be ok, just tried to swap another DVD drive too, same result. How can I check that it's the BA chip?
Also it does spin a round when I turn it on it there is no CD/DVD in it, if there is a CD/DVD inserted it doesn't spin at all? wtf :)
if the ba chip had blown you would not be able to eject and the smt fuse would have blown the spinning is initiated by the b6 so its fine it spins with no disc in the drive

So the BA chip seems ok? Any suggestions on stuff I should check? Btw, you were right about the clicking v4, stupid long screw in wrong place ;)
Hmm, I'm stumped now, I've checked the PS13 fuse (and PS12 etc. too of course) and it's ok. If I understand Entity right, the BA chip should be ok? I don't know what's left to check then :|
Weird that it spins maybe 1/8 or something around when I turn it on without a cd/dvd in, and don't spin at all with the dvd inserted?

grevski wondering if you got this sorted as i got 3 v7's here all the same,all got/had magic 2's in....replaced complete dvd housing so i know laser & ribbens are ok, checked all fuses & replaced both ba chips just in case & nothing disc won't spin..all been modded for about 12 months, seems a shame just to bin em! anyone any ideas i would be gratefull
nope, sorry I'm still baffled on this one. I tried the DVD player in another V7 btw, and it didn't work in it so that was weird as well.
I of course tried the working V7 laser in the V5 laser as well.
mines a little different as i know the lasers have'nt been destroyed by whatever the problem is, but yours has it would appear, have you tried pin 8 on ba chip? if that laser did not work in another console maybe that was the route of the problem
