after doing approx 50 messiah/magic 2,s i have came across my
    first major problem

i had installed a magic 3 to a pal v7 board and when i came to test there is NO browser and no laser spin even though the unit is powered up

i have removed the chip and cleaned up the areas yet i still have the same problem

could this be a fuse on the mainboard

Yes, there's a good chance that one of the motherboard surfacemount fuses has blown. Best to check them with a digital multimeter. If you find all the fuses intact, then you must have a short somewhere on the board, as this usually gives a blank screen.
    Best of luck!!!
