Dead messiah ????

I install a messiah (old) in v5.
After pressing the reset the lights come on but the screen is black.
I remove the chip the ps2 work good.
I put again the chip nad the same problem.
I desolder the chip and put only the scex , reset , gnd , power.
I try to boot PS1 games (double reset ).
The ps2 displayede the red screen of death.
Is the chip faulty ???

Check carefully the RESET line. It should also be possible to verify that each of SCEx & RESET pulses at around 3v. A dead chip won't do that.
