continuity tests –
09-13-2003,12:15 AM
i finally got mine working 100%, now its my friends V7 im working on.
say i want to test the continuity of the solder joints on the back.
its not booting up ps2 backups cd and dvd.
tutorial pointed pointed me to the problem areas.
i tested from the via's (traces back to the correct pads on the cd/dvd controller) to the corresponding pin on the chip (apple in this case) i can assume that those solder joints i made on the pads are good. ??right??
well, in that case, that means the solder joints for the bios i made on the right side of the bios chip are fine too cause im getting continuity between the via's (the ones on the traces between the pad and bios legs) and the chip.
damn it, that means i have to redo (again) the soldering job on the left side of the bios. are there alternate points that i may test from to check those wires?
i wish i were dead
stop me if what i stated above is not true.
thanks.

ummm - to tell the truth what you have mentioned above does not help much...
this sort of thing needs some one who understands what they are testing for to be there with you...
A short between the pad on the apple and the connection point is a good start but then you need to make sure that the pads around it are not also showing continuity / shorts... as this would mean a solder bridge some where.
but establishing that each wire connects correctly to the connection points is a good start - but only the start of working out what is going on.

i found the prob!
boo me. got 2 wires mixed up.
btw, i found alt points for the bios, theyre on the back, but opposite side of where the legs are. i just didnt wanna be testing from the wire to chip.
