I recently got a PS2 for christmas, and I would like to chip the PS2. Is V9 the one with the yellow plus sign at the corner? If so, I think I got myself a V9 PS2. What chip is the best and most reliable for my PS2?
Thx!

Could be a v9 or v10. What is the date code on it? Also, if you're in the states anyway, generally the V9 is in the old styrofoam packaging, v10 is in cardboard... Either way a Messiah 2 PRO, Magic 56k or DMS3 v9 will work. If it's a v9 you can also probably find a good price on a Magic 50k. Which is best and most reliable is a matter of opinion really, they all work.
Will the messiah pro 2 work better than a Magic V? Cause in Toronto, Canada, the only available chip they have in my local mall is the Magic V. They all said that the DMS3 v2 will not work cause it is a PAL and I am in NTSC, so they don't stock it. I am pretty sure I can find the Messiah Pro 2 though.
What are the pros and cons of each?... cuz I heard bad things about the Magic V.
In terms of reliability, I would like a chip that would last me for a long period of time (years) without worrying about not booting up or unable to play any games.
Have anyone experience both Magic V and Messiah Pro 2 for their V9 or V10?
^^ the people in your local mall are idiots...
could it be Pacific Mall?.. those idiots are full of shit
to know if its a v9/v10 start up ps2 with no game in it ,press triangle and check dvd driver version
3.00 E is a V9
3.02 E is a V10

Yes, it's Pacific Mall.. hahahaha
Do you know where I can find a nice place to mod it?
I am so concerned of a bad chip cause I had bad experience with a PS.
i wouldnt install that chip yourself, have a pro do it.
I have installed the Magic V 50k and the Messiah 2 Pro 1.33b both in the V9's and they both work great. I have installed a M2 in a V10 and it works great, yet to install a Magic V 5k6 in a V10 yet but from what I understand there really isn?t any difference, I also have a bunch of Magic 5k6's on the way as well as Magic 50k's. It?s really a matter of personal preference like Madison said. But since they both perform well I look at cost and the magic is way less in price for the same performance.Originally posted by BST07

So Magic can match DMS's reliability?
Also, can Magic turn the DVD into all region?
I am relaly hesitating now, cause I don't want to get a crappy chip that will ruin my PS2.
No the magic will not open up all region DVD play back. As far a reliability I can say that I have installed many Magic V's and not had a issue with a single one.Its not the chip that will ruin your PS2 all current chips are safe( I'm not even going to go into the M2 1.31 issue as I'm refering to the M2 1.33b) however a poor install could ruin your PS2.
