Chipped my first v9 (UK SCPH-50003) yesterday with a Matrix MXL 2. When I first powered on all I got was a black screen, then I turned it off at the back and tried again. I get RSOD most of the time, but now and again a DVDR/CDR boots up, sometimes the PS2 logo is corrupted as well. Still it works, though I haven't tried PS1 games yet. This is the first PS2 I've chipped thats had this problem. Weird???

Used the vias, last times I tried the dsp legs on a v3 I killed the board. Reckon its the BIOS wires anyway, gonna work on them tonight.

wouldn't you have a better chance of ruining the board by soldering to the Via's rather then the legs?

I thought the legs could withstand more heat then the tiny vias?

you can ruin it either way either causing damage to the leg too much pressure slipping with the iron they are both hard but i would htey are both hard but i would say the vias and a fibreglass pen are better for the novice i use the dsp legs myself.

PS1 games had the same problem, so I reckoned it was the BIOS wires. Double checked and cleaned them, and now the boot rate is higher!!!???!!! I might as well minimize on wire crossing now, OK I'm not Mr. Tidy but I've chipped loads of v7 in the past and theres never been any of problems as with the v9.
