Chipmod (www.***********) Review: –

How you doin ladies, enjoyin the holidays? You kick Santa's ass for not gettin you a PSP? I hear he ran out of stock. Don't worry (I'm feelin the same way), we'll get our chance soon enough. Until then, we got more and more "new" mod-chips comin out for - i own all 3 systems (xbox, gc, ps2) - the best piece of entertainment you got other than ******* HD over this ****ing cold weather. So as Ben Stiller once said in Starsky & Hutch... Let's 'Doooo it!'
Todays review is on the Chipmod (come on guys, there's more original names out there) I picked up from ***********. Despite the somewhat pricey selection, they are a very reliable company to order from in terms of turnaround time. Feel free to disagree though, I don't really care.
What i do care about is that this chip has never been reviewed (at least fully) at da scene.org and so it should.
The install went great. Only 18 wires (2 vias) to solder to on a V4 NO GAP NTSC. Took me about an hour. No crossing anywhere. Yada Yada. I booted each of the following test subjects twice. Once using a Reset while the game was in the drive to begin with, and once inserting the game while at the browser/config screen. Here then are the test results:
---------------------------------

Resident Evil 2 - Failed (Same shit happenin as R.E. - D.C.)
DVD Originals:
--------------
The Chronicles of Riddick - 100%
Independence Day S.E. - 100%
DVD-R Backup(s):
------------------
Independence Day S.E. - 100%

------------------
The Matrix - 100%
-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
Summary:
---------
PS2 Mode - 100% Working
PS1/DVD Mode - 90% (Weird... the R.E. games are not anti-mod. They should be working.)
**RW Media not tested due to the obvious (it's a V4).
If it were not for the fact that my favorite (and rare nowadays) PS1 games are not booting when backed up, I'd give this chip three thumbs up ; ). I've been hearing rumors that this chip is actually a Magic 3.1. Anyone wanna confirm that?
Bottom Line: For the price and ease of install - especially on the older ps2's (Only 2 via points to solder to), you can't go wrong with it. There's no devolution mode but it aint on top of everybody's list of features wanted in a chip i'm sure.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Score: 8/10
+Only 18 wires to solder on a V4
+100% Boot rate with ps2 backups/imports/originals
-Some PS1 backups don't boot
-No dev mode
-Clone? (Magic 3.1)
------------------------------------------------------------
I'm out, peace.

splinter cell works fine with a magic 5?
1) NTSC V9 - GH-023 w/HD7 Laser(Romeo)/Crystal CC1.0(0.1.1 H-F)
2) NTSC Vb Gamecube

splinter cell works fine with a magic 3 but not 3.1
imo, the 3 is better then a 3.1 if u fit it with a switch to turn it off
