CDs & DVDs read problems on various consoles
CDs & DVDs read problems on various consoles –

Hi there, I come here to see if some of you could enlighten me.
On 3 consoles (all pal, and 2 of which I have access to), there's reading problems.
The first is a V4 model, with a Messiah1 in it. From some time now (+4 month) ,it can't read a DVD disc properly, be it a game(original and DVD-R) or a movie. All evidences points to a weak/dead DVD diode. I tried some readjust of pots but to no avail, only quicker detection in browser.
The 2 others however are weirder. The first (the other one I can access) is a V3 with a Messiah1. Recently, it could read any kind of media, but inserting a PS2 memory card (genuine and working flawlessly on another console) froze both controlers... Disassembly, and carefull reassembly cured the problem (done by me). However, days later, the same friend told me that the problem occcured again, but he did disassemble and reassemble himself this time, and after that his console could not read PS2 games on CD media (pressed or CDR), giving the cubes of doom. The first conclusion was CD diode weak/fried. HOWEVER, putting a PS1 game (obviously on CD, a CDR) and booting into PS1 mode (x2 reset tap), the game loads INSTANTLY! Showing that the diode is in working condition... Which leaves me puzzled, what is wrong here????
The 3rd PS2 is from someone on a msgboard which has the same CDPS2niet/CDPS1ok/DVDok problem, but not the MC/controller ones. I'm waiting for more info, but it should also be a V3 console.
Hope I was clear enough. Need more info you tell me, have answers/theories, you tell me also
TIA

3 in 1 eh?
v4: Either clean the lens or the laser is weakening.
v3(1): This problem has on occasion been associated with damage to the cables arising out of mis-reassembly or not properly seating the other end. When your friend re-asembled he may have snagged the ribbon cables or other cables and even driven a screw through.
v3(2): No idea. Not enough info.

Been there, done that, heh
so replacement needed
v3(1): This problem has on occasion r not properly seating the other ebeen associated with damage to the cables arising out of mis-reassembly ond. When your friend re-asembled he may have snagged the ribbon cables or other cables and even driven a screw through.
Well I did dismantle and reassemble it after he dis-re-assemble, and all seemed well, however there's still one flat cable suspicious (the MB-to-Drive one), I have some spares of it, so I'll try them
v3(2): No idea. Not enough info.
Some more info: V3, NeokeyUSB.
Thanks for quick reply.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, with the 2nd console, there are no more Memorycard problemes anymore. Only disc reading woes.

Ok
the 3rd console's owner will try a PS1 game as soon as he can, he doesn't have a PS1 disc right now.
He can't get his' AR (PS2 blue CD) to work, while his DVD games work, and he only has DVD games on PS2.
Thank you very much!

NeoKey is just one of the worstest modchips around.
It does inject a pulse on laser vias, leading a fried the laser or part of laser cannon in few months.

Some correction about the 2nd console:
It does not always go to the RSOD (only sometimes), in the majority of the cases, the message "Unable to read disc" appears, followed by DVD player controls.
Game disc is recognized in the browser, but launching by this way brings the same msg (without the playstation2 logo showing)
If it can help...
Gradius, thank for the info.
