I have recently installed my magic 3.1 and i checked, no connections have been brdiged, but when i boot the cd only spins about a quater turn then stops, any idea?
The ribbion cable to the laser in NOT properly seated on either end. Or damaged?
what verison ps2 are we talking about here? Like LOD said check the ribbon cables. More details = more help![]()
its a Version 4 with magic 3.1, btw i added a 22 to GND and 5v there both 5 inches and under, ive checked the ribbons and it seems there all right, the one under the eye seems a bit bent, but no serouis dammage apparent... when i put the disk in (under browser) it goes to "reading disk" then 2 seconds later it goes back to no data. thanks!
After close inspection i have figured out the prolbem, the circut board on the eye is damaged on the left side there is a cut and 2 wires are disconnected, ive been looking at replacement eyes, and could i just replace the cirtut board?, or would it be to difficult and shoul i just go with a whole new eye? Thanks for the help
Why you don't try fixing it ? It's not impossible ...
Ah that damage is common on V4s. If a person mount a new laser on the outer edge of the tray (near the white cog) it will
get cut by a sharp edge of the metal shield. The PS2 first pull the laser to the center and only after the laser is in the center it tries to close the drive tray. The laser have no trobles if the tray is closed, but that is fatal if the tray is open.
I wish this is of help
How would i go by fixing it?, or are you talking about getting a whole new laser?, becuase i found the circut board but it looks very hard to install =(, i only have a basic iron and tools.
Thanks
by bridging all conections which got broken you can restore the laser into the world of living PS2 units ... that's what I mean ... but with basic soldering iron it's tricky to achieve ...
Since you're not experienced with soldering you might be better in getting a new laser ...
Still it's a shame trash a laser like yours...
I can fix that kind of problem with the flexible circuit board, but I'm on South America ... I guess it's not worth the mail price ...![]()
what mail price are we talking about here? =), and i know people that are way good at soldering, so if i tell them what to do, 99% of me thinks they can do it. =)
btw, im in AZ, USA
