Can someone help with modchip problem?

I purchased a PS2 with a modchip from someone on ebay. From the start, the system had a little trouble recognizing an import disk, but I eventually got it to work after messing around with it a little. Though, a few days later, the system won't recognize any disks even a domestic PS2 game. Also, the system has been freezing up and I can only turn it off by the back switch. When I go into the browser to play the disk, the screen clears and returns back to the browser screen showing the memory card and disk, over and over. I would appreciate it if any was able to tell me if they recognize this problem. The seller thinks it got damaged in shipping. Does anyone know if this problem is repairable and know of a good dealer I can send it to? Thanks for your time.

if it did get damaged by shipping check to see if any wires came loose.and what type of chip is it anyways?
